An amazing personal moment i had today, i just needed to get it out into words.
I have these moments alot but this was was the strongest
i blame you Hadron94!

That quote is not mine but Richard Dawkins’ and I believe it applies to everyone (it has, as you might have noticed, nothing to do with religion, although the religious do tend to misuse and mistrust science).
P.S. (pre-script ;) ) This is more about “Science is valid, and if you don’t agree you can fuck off” but no-one famous i know of said that, so thank you Dawkins).
Its a long read but please forgive me, I hope it will inspire.
Today, several thousand kilometers away a huge machine comprised of billions of billions of transistors; carefully built, designed and conceptualized over the last hundred years, received a message in the form of a series of electrons arriving at near the speed of light and pulsing at a rate of millions or billions of times every second. This message was interpreted, parsed, and caused an arm to move, this arm passed over a finely crafted spinning disk with (im guessing) 8796093022208 tiny little squares on it; capable of sitting in one of 2 states. This carefully crafted disk was spinning as 7200 revolutions per minute while the arm used the carefully studied principals of magnetism to determine which one of these two states the current space was in. This information was then sent up the arm, processed by those billions of transistors at billions of cycles per second, that data was then turned into pulses of electromagnetic waves which reached an antenna many meters away. These pulses were then once again turned into ones and zeros and shot off again, these signals raced through wires for kilometers before they reached a place, where once again, at billions of cycles per seconds running through billions of transistors the information was now turned into light. This light raced through some incredible cables until it finally reached a place where it turned back into electrical impulses. Those impulses were then transferred through more cables and finally turned back into electromagnetic waves. These waves traveled until they hit more of the most advanced technology in the world, turned once again back into electrical pulses, processed by billions of transistors working at 2,900,000,000 (2.9 billion) pulses per second, being instructed by 17179869184 other perfectly placed ones and zeros designed by people who spent their lives making it. This processed data then finally made it to NAND gates that use the principals of quantum mechanics inside my SSD to finally lay to rest.
This happens every second, for about 20 minutes, on ~12 other computers, each containing billions of transistors. Then finally the ones and zeros are lifted from their quantum NAND gates, processed again, parsed and sent through cables to tiny electromagnets which changes the amount a little liquid crystal is rotated, allowing it to let through more or less of a certain coloured light, this once again happening at about 60 times every second. These light waves (particles) then radiate out until they hit my eye, are turned into more electromagnetic signals and finally are processed by a quantum computer of far greater power than any other known in the universe; my brain (the human brain).
All this, so i can torrent and watch the movie watchmen tonight.
So the next time someone says “I don’t believe in science” you have every right to take: their cloths, their car, their house, their electricity, their computer, their light, their life (if they are over ~35 years), their food, their tools, their money and send them to a cave and give them a club and a spear.
Everything that makes this world the modern world, almost all the technologies you see today, are owed to the scientific method; BE GRATEFUL.
